Anglesey Druid Coin

Anglesey Druid Coin; Half Penny

Anglesy is an island in Wales where the Druid college was. The Romans attacked it in about 60 AD. In the 1700s there was copper found on Anglesey, so a mine was created. The mine made tokens to use as coins, because small denomination coins were not easily available there at the time. These coins came from the Parys Mine Company of Anglesey.
This is a half penny condor token with a hooded Druid on it, in honor of the Druids who once lived and trained there.

The coin measures about 1 1/8" across, and has natural patina. From 1791.On the edge it says "Anglesey payable in London or Anglesey" with little "x" in between some words.

The coin measures about 1 1/4" across, and has natural patina. From 1788. Unfortunately, it looks as if someone scraped into the patina of this one. I don't know if it goes into the metal or not, but the pennies are quite rare. Around the edge it says "Liverpool or Anglesey on demand in London".
